ONE NAME IS ENOUGH - P.E. Edekobi |
ONE NAME IS ENOUGH An African story narrated
in simple and clear English language that
further adds to the richness of African
literature.
The Onitsha Ibo sees himself
encircled by aggressive kinsmen from all Ibo
regions grabbing at the Onitsha Market and
threatening to extinguish the Onitsha
indigene.
The book gives an insight into
the culture of the Onitsha Ibo, the local
government hierarchy at the early time before
the British influence. There are pointers to
native religion, occupation, values for life and
the acceptance of European education.

The
narrative includes derivatives of the song and
music, dance and the people’s appetite for
refinement. The reader will be asking whether
the natural disposition of the people, the
beauty and inspiration of the riverine
environment have all disappeared.
The
religion of the past seeks to resist the strong
current of the Christian faith. The “Iroko” gods
have been cut down. Are the gods buried in the
ground? Is the spirit of the community living
underground in the stream that flowed through
the village? How does the land revive the life
and hope for the future generations?
One Name Is Enough has shown the benefits of
education and civilisation. It is an enquiry
that will search the values of the generations
born and unborn. How do we cultivate a
brotherhood of one people, without bitterness?
Education acquisition should enable people to
search for new values of patriotism, equal
citizenship, progress, continuing opportunities
for education and employment.
It is not
enough to aspire to be a Chief and answer to big
titles and names.

Rain Drops of Remorse and Other Poems - P.E. Edekobi |
|
The title "Raindrops of Remorse" actually
relates to the subject of one of the longer
poems, and dominates the whole theme of this
collection. The remorse and lamentations are
clearly the heart beats and cries of victims of
the civil war in Nigeria. The poem weeps for the
dead. Like the grass crushed beneath the
stampede of elephants, the war victims were
brutalised and deprived. They were the voiceless
population. Millions of them had died without
knowing why the soldiers were fighting. They were
the defenceless. They ran from the encounter for
fear of their lives. They bore the brunt of
disaster in the evacuation of towns and villages
as the fighting encroached on them. Thus, they
trekked barefoot for miles and days, from one
refugee camp to another, losing in the process,
bits and pieces of their lives and
possessions.

Blessed Iwene Tansi - Our Personal
Experience - P.E. Edekobi |
"The legacy of Blessed Iwene Tansi as a man of prayer and peace, humility and obedience, teaches the world to shun strife and violence. By following the example of his life, we bring ourselves closer to Jesus Christ.
We learn how to overlook material and social arrogance.
We inculcate patience in our difficulties, like illness bearing in mind that suffering has an end."
